SpikeTV will air Countdown to UFC 106 late tonight. The show is supposedly going to be aired at 12:30 AM Eastern. It also appears that the show is only going to run thirty minutes long. The show usually airs around 10 or 11pm Eastern and normally runs for one hour. The lack of title fight must be the reason for the dramatic change. UFC 106 is headlined by Tito Ortiz vs Forrest Griffin 2.
Despite lacking a title shot, UFC 106 has some very interesting match ups including a rematch between former title holders Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin. Griffin suffered his first loss in the UFC to Ortiz who was originally slated to fight Mark Coleman. Also on the card is a welterweight showdown between rising star Anthony Johnson and TUF Season 1 contestant Josh Koscheck which makes for a very exciting fight.
Phil Baroni returns to the UFC to face off against TUF winner Amir Sadollah in what should be a very explosive fight that should be fought mainly on the feet. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira will make his UFC debut at UFC 106 when he faces off against hot prospect Luiz Cane. Submission wizard Dustin Hazelett will look to submit Karo Parisyan who is returning after a suspension that resulted from a failed drug test.
UFC 106 kicks off with two preliminary bouts on SpikeTV at 9pm Est. TUF 2 Contestant Marcus Davis will look to slug it out with another TUF contestant in Ben Saunders. TUF Winner Kendall Grove will look to get back into the win column when he faces Jake Rosholt who shocked Chris Leben in his last fight.
UFC 106 takes place this Saturday with two of the preliminary match ups being aired live on SpikeTV at 9pm. The pay per view portion of the card begins at 10pm Eastern and is headlined by Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin.
